Q&A with AQ 👑 feat. Chris(Topher)

Welcome back to my blog and the first Q&A with AQ 👑 (Adulting Queen).

Basically, I just call up my friends and tell them to ask me 5 random questions, then voila you get a blog post and fun facts about me!

Chris and I met through NASPA when we both served on the Undergraduate Student Conference Committee. Since then a wonderful friendship has blossomed! Can't wait for one of our RVA meet ups post-COVID.

Let’s see what random things Chris asked....

Most proud, recent accomplishment

AQ- I would first say creating all the things I have with The Adulting Queen and putting in the time to push it forward. Second, is getting a job in a pandemic! I had been job searching for about a year and a half. I definitely didn't think anything would come OUT OF A PANDEMIC, but here we are! Imposter syndrome is real but my friends and family are reminding me that this is a great accomplishment and I worked hard to get here. What’s for you won’t pass you by!

Chris- So recently I have gotten into DIY crafts. Mine usually pertain to items that will enhance everyday life in my apartment and add to my mid-century vibe I am trying to go for. Recently, a lot of items were being thrown away that students did not want that I got a hold of. One of these items was a short, multileveled shelf, and a table. What I loved about these two projects is how simple it was, yet created such an incredible vibe in my apartment. I actually ended up throwing out my junky coffee table to replace it with the table I have now. And, I can now say that I have a bar cart (the old shelf) - this is something I've wanted for a few years that I originally thought I'd buy. Aside from those two items, I am SO EXCITED to share my ladder blanket that I built from scratch. I cannot tell you how many times I wanted to give up on this project. After watching probably 2 hours worth of various Youtube videos, I embarked on my 10+ hour ladder blanket.

Favorite destination

AQ- I love Houston and Miami. Both times I went to Houston it was for a Beyonce concert. My friend and cousin live there too so they made sure to show me a good time. When I’ve gone it felt very homey and I explored some places by myself. Miami forever has a piece of my heart since I lived there for a year and a half. Once I left I visited frequently and went in the summer for the past 2 years to celebrate Sixto’s birthday. We couldn’t go this year because COVID, but I definitely am missing it.

Chris- Well, it's Kenya for sure - but that's a copout since I was born there. But, seriously, VISIT! Don't go to any other country :) If I had to choose, it's really between Austin and Las Vegas. These two places have the things that I always look forward to when I travel: delicious food, drinks, and nightlife. They're so different, yet so similar. In Austin, you can hop around 50 bars/clubs within a span of 30 minutes. In Vegas, you are out until 4AM - and repeat the day drinking and adventures around 11AM. I guess something that sort of tops Austin is the amount of water around you can visit for tubing and other water adventures.

Three people dead or alive I'd love to have dinner with

AQ- Beyonce, Michael B. Jordan, my Grandpas

Chris- PRESIDENT Barak Obama, Christina Yang, and an ancestor

Future Aspirations

AQ- I want to get paid to brunch around the world and make The Adulting Queen a well known brand! On the Student Affairs side, I honestly don’t know. Higher Ed is so interesting right now. I first wanted to be a Vice President or Dean of Students for Student Affairs. At this point I’m just putting it in the good Lord’s hands.

Chris- I'd love to be a University President then retire to do consulting at some point. Or, run for office!

Do you enjoy cooking?

AQ- Ehhh, I’m in between lol. I like cooking because it’s healthier and you know what’s going into it. I don’t because when you want to do fancy things you need multiple contraptions then there’s tons of dishes. I also do not like cooking for people. I know how to cook though, so don’t try to come for me!

Chris- Love it - I look at people who order out everyday like they're aliens. I understand some do not know how to cook and it is a fear for people, but you can always learn! Pick up a pan, meat, and lots of seasoning. I enjoy making my food Whole30. It has helped me lose weight through the years and makes my body feel so good! I can't have dairy or sugar or some of the other bad things humans eat daily the same - the toilet will be my friend hours later.

Check out Chris' great before & after of his blanket ladder featuring Tanner!
